Safe and Sound Protocol Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to see results?

Improvements from the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) can start as soon as you begin listening and may continue to emerge for several weeks after completing the full protocol.

​

I have had clients who noticed an immediate difference from the first minute of listening. They felt instant regulation, and were able to feel IN their body during the following days after listening. 

​

My own personal experience was different. I didn't notice results until after I had completed my first round with the SSP.  I suddenly realized that I felt more settled and there was this access to a quiet centeredness within. I also realized after 3 months that I hadn't needed an atlas adjustment on my neck when I had been requiring them every 3 weeks before starting the SSP. It's been 10 months now and I still haven't needed an adjustment. Most recently I noticed that my social anxiety was all but gone. I was able to sit in a crowded room, at the front (away from a quick exit) without even thinking about it. It took me a while to notice because I usually avoid those types of situations.

What equipment or headphones do I need for SSP?

​

  • A cell phone or tablet capable of downloading the app.

  • A second device (Tablet, Phone or Computer) that you can utilize for the Zoom calls.

  • A set of OVER THE EAR headphones (without noise cancelling function or bass boost) that is connectable to the device that the app is on. For Apple products, you may need a specific adapter to connect. Airpods, Earbuds or the like are not supported with this program as they don’t stimulate the middle ear muscles in the necessary way.

  • A creative project, such as an adult coloring book or sketchpad and pens, for you to work on while we listen to the music. (This is entirely optional.)

Who should NOT do the SSP?

​

  • People with active Seizure Disorders.

  • Those who are in active states of Self Harm or Suicidal Ideation.

  • People struggling with Bipolar, Borderline Personality Disorder or Dissociative Disorders. (The SSP may still be suitable via private delivery for these people if they are under the care of a qualified psychiatric medical provider.)

  • Those people with a perforated or ruptured eardrum, stapedectomy, tympanostomy tubes.

  • Those people who are experiencing psychosis or are on antipsychotic medications or have had a recent psychiatric hospitalization.

  • Those people experiencing ACUTE Tinnitus that is deeply bothersome. The SSP can aggravate Tinnitus and in some cases it can also resolve Tinnitus. If Tinnitus is not bothersome, it is advised to listen keeping it to the lowest comfortable level, monitoring and adjusting throughout delivery.

When is the right time to do the SSP?

Ideally, the SSP should be done when things in life are pretty stable and you aren't in the middle of big changes or life events.

​

It's not recommended to do the SSP before invasive dental work or invasive procedures and surgeries.

​

If you are struggling to manage daily life and your nervous system is maxed out, unless you are going VERY slowly, the SSP could tax your nervous system even more. It's important to match your listening to your current capacity. Sometimes stress cannot be avoided and the SSP may indeed help but only if administered in a responsible and titrated way.

What does the Music Sound Like?

There are several different playlists available ranging from Contemporary Music, Disney Music, Classical and other Instrumental music.

The CORE pathway (which is the active SSP pathway) sounds just like normal music though people have said it can have a slightly "tinny" sound to it due to the filtration.

How long does it take to complete SSP listening, and what is the typical length of sessions?

​

The duration of SSP listening sessions and the overall completion time can vary significantly for each individual. Here are some key points to consider:

  1. Session Length: The maximum recommended listening time is up to 30 minutes per day. However, many individuals benefit from shorter sessions or taking days off during the process. Typical listening times may range from 1 to 15 minutes, but some may require even shorter durations, particularly those who are highly sensitive.

  2. Completion Time:

    • Some individuals may complete SSP Core safely within 2-3 weeks.

    • Others may take 2-3 months.

    • More sensitive or medically complex individuals might need several months to finish one round.

  3. Onset of Improvements: Many clients, especially those who need to proceed slowly, often notice improvements within the first week, sometimes even during the initial session.

  4. Response Patterns: Common experiences include:

    • Some find the first hour easy but need to slow down in subsequent sessions.

    • Others struggle initially but adapt and increase their listening pace over time.

  5. Example Progression: A sensitive client might start with just one minute every three days, then gradually increase to longer sessions, ultimately achieving significant progress within four months, despite initial concerns about a lengthy process.

  6. Overall Insight: Needing to take a slower pace does not hinder improvement; often, those who proceed cautiously see the most substantial benefits.

The journey through SSP is unique to each individual, with many factors influencing the pace and effectiveness of the process.
